It was bank holiday Monday when I joined 3 friends to embark upon the most difficult physical challenge I had ever inflicted upon my body. And that’s coming from a guy who has scaled Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scarfell Pike. It was the Northumberland Coastal Challenge Walk 2012: 26.3 miles of wind swept coastline along craggy paths on cliff edges battered by crashing waves. And if that was not enough, there were 5 checkpoints along the route, and a time limit on each one. Continue reading “My First Marathon: Northumberland Coastal Challenge Walk 2012” »

I thought Marcus was being very kind to let me do a fight scene in his film. While I had attended drama school for several years in my early teens, I thought that five years of pharmacy school had more than obliterated any acting talent I might have had. You know the saying – if you don’t use it, you lose it. So I felt a certain degree of pressure to perform as well as I could.
I was introduced to fight choreographer, Steve Coleman, who ran through the fight with myself and Tony Cook, move for move. The idea was that Tony’s character, a soldier, was moving on hands and knees, out of his hiding place and that I – one of those minion bad guys in movies that just gets killed – would run in and attack him. He would punch me in the face a few times while I attempted to gore his eyes out. Then eventually, he would break my neck.
We practised. We went over it again and again. I’d like to think we improved. Unfortunately, as is often the case when filming, time was against us and we had to be off the location by six o’clock, so we went ahead and shot the scene.
After my first run through, I got a clap. This made me feel good but it’s easily possible everybody was just being polite, though I hope that my performance was satisfactory because I was giving it everything I had. For that hour, I put my personal well being aside and even got stung multiple times by nettles.
I have yet to see the finished film but I do look forward to it. And I look forward to many more days spent filming.

Last weekend, I was lucky enough to go to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
My love of magic and illusion has over the years transpired into a love of live entertainment in general. Stand-up comedy inevitably falls under that umbrella.
If you’ve never been to the Fringe and you don’t know what it is, let me explain. It’s a comedy festival primarily, though magic does have a place there. And it’s like having live sky plus available but where every channel is a comedy show. What could be better!? It was the second Saturday in June when I got up excruciatingly early (0530) to catch a train to London where I was to do the first acting I’ve done since I left drama school at about 14 and had my first ever experience on a film set. It was my day on set at Superman: Requiem, a film I’d become involved with through my friend Daniella. Continue reading “Adam’s Extra Adventure” »

Imagine a city that never sleeps; a bustling metropolis which is in many respects like a giant sized theme park. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you New York City.
This was my first time in New York and, in fact, my first trip to the USA for about 5 years. It was good to be back! Continue reading “Adam’s Big Apple Adventure” »

What happened when I went skiing in the Alps with a couple of friends. How I could have easily died on route 36, how I learned to ski in 5 days flat and where they make the best pizza in the world! Continue reading “Adam’s Alpine Adventure: Skiing In Northern Italy” »
