Steve Cutts first came to my attention on Facebook. His art depicts and reflects a particular worldview which I think is hard to deny, at least to some level. I’ve become a big fan of his work because it makes me think.
Here are five of his best (in my opinion) pieces that make us question how we see the world. All titles in this article are thought up by me.
Society tries to teach us that money is the key to happiness. And while happiness is quite difficult with no money, so many people become the rat in this picture. Keep things in perspective.
Stand in a public place in any city and this is pretty difficult to deny. We are seemingly so hungry for something… And we think it will come from our phones… I suppose the irony is that that artist achieved notoriety because people look at his pictures on their phones…!
A probably all too true depiction of consumerism. How Christmas has come to drive consumerism (75% of all retail profits, I believe are generated in December) and what happiness seemingly means to people these days – Apple and Sony products. All powered by slave labour.
A man in a suit putting the planet in a wood chipper to get money shows capitalism as a highly destructive force which is wrecking the world to make money. It’s definitely true to some degree.
Get off your smart phone for a minute in the morning and it’s hard not to see this. (Especially if your route to work involves the Central Line!)
