My 2018 Manifesto: Some Things I’ll Be Aiming For In 2018

January 8, 2018

Sorry this is a little late. We’re 8 days into 2018 and I’ve only just had the time to get a plan together. Still, better late than never. So here it is: Over the next 12 months, I, Adam Patel, will aim to realise the following dreams and ambitions and goals…

#1. Do My Audiences Proud At My Live Shows

In just a couple of months, ‘Adam Patel: Real Magic LIVE’ goes on the road. This show has been years in the making and I’m currently focusing most of my energy into making it the best live show I can do.

I’ve spent months obsessing and agonising over the various parts of it and I’ll continue to do so right up until the moment I walk on stage. It may only be entertainment but it’s a very serious business.

If you come to my show, that means two things: First, it means you chose to spend your precious leisure time and your hard-earned cash on me. When you had a bunch of other options for that particular evening. And I am honoured that you did. I wouldn’t be where I am without you. And I want to do you proud.

I want you to leave the theatre at the end of the evening in a positively good mood. I want you to have had a good laugh and to have experienced the highs and lows of the story. I want you to be left buzzing about it. And I want you to think to yourself, “That is the best show I’ve seen for a long time!”

And the only way that’s going to happen is if I spend every waking hour trying to make my show the best show that it can be.

#2. Achieve Financial Independence

Despite all the successes of the last few years, money-wise, things have been a bit touch and go. It sort of comes with the territory when you step off the employment track and try to build your own thing.

So in 2018, I want to achieve financial independence. In my own right. Relying on nobody (except obviously my lovely clients and customers).

I don’t think family is far away now. And by the time I have dependents, I need to have a solid financial base to provide peace-of-mind and silence-of-wife.

#3. Get Ripped

This is an odd one for me. At school, I would probably have been voted least likely to either do this or even to want to do it. I’ve lived most of my life concerning myself with how to realise bigger dreams, start companies and build wealth. For most of my life, I have not dressed well or taken very much pride in my appearance whatsoever. I’ve never given much thought to or attributed much value to the physical. So it seems out of character for me to be so mentally focussed on this that I genuinely look forward to my gym sessions.

This is something many men say they want that they end up not following through on. And there are probably lots of reasons for that. One of the marketing consultants I work with says that there are two reasons people don’t do things: Either they don’t really want it, or they don’t believe it will work. I think for me, with this, I’ve never genuinely believed it would work. Irrational, I know.

But since 2015, much has happened, and my mind has been opened up a great deal. I now believe not only that it will work, but that it is inevitable.

By this spring, I’ll look like a guy in an underwear commercial!

I’ll be tagging all posts over the coming year associated with this goal with the tag ‘ripped‘.

#4. Do More Facebook Live Videos

I want to start doing live broadcasts on Facebook live. So far, this has eluded me. It’s actually harder than I thought to find time when I’m alone and in a good frame of mind to talk to the Internet and sound at all interesting. Writing is so much easier. Like now – I can be half asleep and you, the reader, will never know unless I tell you.

#5. Do Panto

I’ve long wanted to be a part of this British tradition though I still don’t particularly know how to go about it. If anybody can help me with this, do get in touch on Twitter. (@AdamPatel)

#6. Produce A Play

It’s time I got back into acting. And since film-making is currently too expensive and unlikely to make bank, through Maaya I’ve developed a bit of an appreciation for theatre. And I think it’s time I was in one. I don’t know what yet, but it’s coming. Watch this space.
