Samsung Genio Touch – New Generation

2010
07.12

Just one look at the Samsung Genio touch will tell you who this phone is aimed at. It features an interchangeable back cover, has built in Facebook support, comes in bright, vibrant colors and is reasonably priced. So you know that this phone is for the young at heart.

This really is a cool phone. It’s comfortable and easy to hold and is also pretty lightweight. The interchangeable back covers give a dramatic effect to the overall look of the phone. For instance, if you want a sophisticated, Apple-type look use the slick white cover. If you’re feeling playful you can change to the orange or pink cover with the swirly pattern.

The user interface is also pretty awesome. The Genio Touch has three different home screens and a ton of widgets. Just choose a widget on the toolbar and  drag and drop it on the home screen. The widgets give you instant access to all the social networks like Facebook, Youtube and Twitter, which are all pre-loaded into the phone.

Unfortunately, the Genio Touch does not have an on screen QWERTY keyboard. You have to type your instant messages and text the old fashion way, using the on screen number pad. The screen on this phone measures 71mm, so it’s a little small.

The camera on this mobile isn’t that great. The camera is  2 megapixels with low resolution and no flash. Pictures taken indoors look dim and grainy. Taking videos is possible, but again the quality is not the best.

A big disappointment however, is the fact that this phone does not have 3G or Wi-Fi. With a phone that has so many social networking and on-line features, you would think that they would include more than just EDGE for data access. Another disappointment is there is no 3.5mm headphone jack. But Samsung does supply a 3.5 converter.

The media play back capability is pretty decent. You get plenty of storage with the ability to add up to 8GB on a micro SD card. The sound quality is also good, but you should use the adaptor and your own headphones to get the best sound for your music. An FM radio is also included and if you get an optional data cable, you can create your playlists on the go.
You also get all the usual tools, like a calendar, file browser ,etc. The phone also has WMA,MP3, AAC, eAAC and eAAC+ formats.

All in all, we really liked the price of the Samsung Genio Touch. We were impressed with the smart phone like  inter-face and the ability to change the look of the phone by using the back covers. The media play back capability also impressed us.

We were disappointed however, with the 2 mega pixel camera and the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack. Also disappointing was the lack of 3G and Wi-Fi.

Basically, we’re very impressed with the Samsung Genio Touch. It’s a budget priced phone, but it doesn’t act like one. It has a slick look and is easy to use. Yes, it is lacking a few features, but for a phone in its price range, it’s worth looking into. The Samsung Genio Touch is a good cost effective touchscreen phone. Consider getting affordable mobile phone deals online as this will make it easier to purchase.
